For one reason or another, we all have to visit the Post Office periodically. If the line is short, sometimes it can be a relatively quick process. But if the line is long, if not enough people are working the window, if you have something complicated you need to do there, the experience can be downright miserable. However, I've never heard anybody say that visiting the Post Office was fun. So redesign the experience of visiting the post office!

This design jam is specifically focused on Experience Design. What is the experience of visiting the Post Office, and what should it be? What are the needs of people visiting the Post Office and how can they be addressed (a) without annoying them (i.e., taking too long), and (b) in a way which might even be enjoyable for them? Questions that may or may not help out your redesign:

  • Why do you go to the Post Office?
  • What are other reasons people visit the Post Office?
  • What makes it take a long time?
  • What could make the visit pleasant? Fun?
  • How does the layout of the room affect the experience of visiting the Post Office?
  • How does the interaction between people, resources, etc. affect the experience of visiting the Post Office?
